Ljósið Cancer Rehabilitation Center

Ljósið’s services are for anyone 16 years of age or older who has been diagnosed with cancer, their loved ones, and their family members. Family members of the diagnosed 6 years of age and older can access support from specialists and tailored educational courses.

The goal of the service is a holistic approach to the individual’s needs, no matter where they are in their journey. We aim to provide support following diagnosis, educate on resources, boost function and social engagement in addition to promoting the maintenance of both mental and physical endurance through education and physical rehabilitation.

Ljósið’s services are carried out in Icelandic and specialists also speak English and Danish. Interpreting services are available for consultations with our healthcare staff. Individuals that require interpretation services are asked to notify the staff when booking a consultation. Consultations are booked either through the contact form on Ljósið’s website, by phone, or in person at our reception. A specialist at Ljósið manages the booking of services from recognized parties.

All individuals that register for services attend initial consultations with an occupational therapist and a physiotherapist. Consultations with these specialists are the prerequisite for accessing all of the activities on offer at any given time and throughout the rehabilitation process.

  • Your co-ordinator (occupational therapist or social worker) evaluates and strengthens your skills in day-to-day activities which promotes balance in daily life. Need for other services from other specialists is evaluated and your rehabilitation program is put together in consultation with them. More information can be found at this link here: Consultation with an Occupational Therapist
  • A consultation with a physical therapist consists of an evaluation of your physical ability as well as organizing your physical rehabilitation and inputting it into your rehabilitation programme. More information on consultations with physical therapists can be found at this link here: Consultation with a Physical Therapist

Ljósið’s timetable is updated regularly. It is available on this website in Icelandic. The rehabilitation process has a beginning and an end.
